Pyle Youth 7 Trebanos Youth 56

Saturday 6th October 2007.

RuckThis game started brightly for the visitors, with full back Nathan Jones scoring a fine try with the first passing movement of the game, Jones crossing wide out on the right and just failing with the conversion.  From the restart Trebanos showed that it’s not just Wales who are unable to secure possession, we can also mess it up as well.  There followed at least five minutes of pressure from the home side whose forwards were camped well into the Trebanos 22.  This period also saw determined defence from the visiting side particularly the forwards who had to deal with the mauling and rucking of the Pyle eight.

Trebanos' efforts finally got them into their opponents half; and good work at a home lineout, from No 8 Lee Sinclair, flankers Luke Davies and Rhodri Williams, saw the ball get to the backs and full back Nathan Jones once again breaking the line, this time crossing under the posts, for an easy conversion, which he duly slotted.

try saving tackleThe new forwards coach, Phil Beynon used the time for the conversion to make sure that his charges were more organised for the restart and it obviously worked with the kick off being safely gathered and play again moving to the halfway.  Then came the best try of the half.  A speculative kick down field, by the home side saw Nathan Jones gather the ball on his own 22, feed centre Dan Docherty, who was held by the chasers.  The situation was rescued by right wing Jordan Hopkins, whose straight running saw hooker Rhys Thomas in support who committed several of the opposition forwards to bring him down.  Quick ball was secured by the ever-present back row, which was passed quickly to looping outside half Ross Jones to cross wide out on the right.  Hard working flanker Rhodri Williams was then rewarded for his efforts by being on hand to finish off the try-scoring for the first half when he crossed under the posts for Nathan Jones to convert and Trebanos held a 24 points to nil lead at the break.

endThe second half saw an injury to key second row Bradley Owens, who fell heavily on his shoulder whilst attempting a cover tackle on the Pyle left wing.  The winger was able to show his pace to cross over wide on the left.  Trebanos replied with a try from Nathan Jones, which he also converted.  Then came the last quarter of the game where the superior fitness and technique of the visitors was evident.  Outside half Ross Jones controlled the whole game well, but really came into his own in this period, setting up his strong running threequarters with intelligent passes which because of the efforts of his pack, he was able to vary.  Right wing Liam Oszavic, scoring two well taken tries, which despite swift passing still left a lot to do, particularly the first but the strong winger was up to the task and took both of the opportunities that came his way.  Not to be outdone replacement Chris Balffe scored two tries through good support work and finished the second one with a dive under the posts that would have shamed Shane Williams, which was converted by Kris Jones.

A very good result for Trebanos and coaches Rhodri Jones and Phil Beynon must be very pleased with the way that the team played for each other and in the way that all the players are developing into good ball handlers.
