Paul Man and Youth

Before the game, Paul “Man” Phillips who is a vice president of the club, presented the youth team with a set of new jerseys, the players, coaches, and club officials would like to express their thanks to Paul for his very generous and welcome contribution.

Trebanos welcomed Morriston for their third league game of the season, having won their two opening games. ‘Banos are joint top of their league and were looking forward to the challenge posed by the visitors.  Trebanos attacked from the outset and played some good attacking rugby and were rewarded when the visiting backs were judged to be offside.  Nic Damjanovic slotted over a well-struck penalty to give the home side an early three points.

The Morriston pack were strong and well organised, causing Trebanos problems in the scrum, but the home eight had the advantage in the loose, where their superior fitness and awareness gave them a definite advantage.  At times their support and interpassing was very impressive and it was only lapses in concentration that let them down.  The forward pressure paid off with No8 Lee Sinclair crossing near the touchline for Nic Damjanovic to convert with a fine kick.

The home side continued to play some good rugby with centres Scott Barret and Nic Damjanovic breaking the line repeatedly, but then failing to capitalise on their good work.  The first half ending Trebanos 10 Morriston 0.

The second half started in the same fashion with Trebanos moving the ball amongst the forwards and backs.  The forwards gained a lot of ground with several phases of interplay before releasing winger Jordan Hopkins, whose pace beat the covering defence for a great try, which went unconverted.

From the restart, Morriston pressed hard and were camped on the home side’s try line for some time.  It was only resolute defending by the whole team that stopped Morriston scoring.  The home defence seemed to frustrate the visitors who were penalised and Ross Jones relieved the pressure with an excellent kick to touch.  The home pack won the ball and set up a series of phases to gain a lot of ground where the ball was moved to the backs and good interpassing between Jordan Hopkins and full back Kristian Jones saw Kristian score another try wide out, which also went unconverted.

Morriston again pressurised from the restart and were rewarded with a good try, which went unconverted.  This score seemed to wake up the home side, and from the restart, ‘Banos put together some good rugby and it was they who were camped on the visitors line for some time.  Some well-organised forward play resulted in Chris Balffe scoring for Nic Danjanovic to convert for the final points of the game.
